Tarrant TRF Challenge Met
A challenge grant brought in more than $350,000, the Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation announced Friday. Amy Tarrant, a successful Thoroughbred owner, breeder and trainer and a staunch supporter of the TRF, agreed to match any donation to the TRF from November through December 31, 2014 up to $100,000.
When the challenge period ended, donations exceeded expectations by $250,000.
“I am so happy that it was so successful,” Tarrant said. “I feel strongly that these horses deserve another career after they are done racing. We ask so much of them as racehorses, and they give everything they’ve got. The TRF has been the most prominent of the groups in helping to care for and find second careers for former racehorses; and because of the work it does and my friendship with Diana, I was more than happy to get something started for TRF for the new year.”
Tarrant currently has eight horses in training with her at Palm Meadows, and another 11 at her Hardacre Farm in Ocala.
“We are so grateful to Amy for her vision in making this transformative challenge gift,” TRF Vice-President Diana Pikulski commented. “Donors were clearly inspired by Amy and the chance to double their investment in the TRF. Our supporters did more than we could ever have expected, and the impact on our horses and programs will be felt throughout the year and beyond.”
