Off the mark over 10 furlongs at Salisbury May 18, Fleur Forsyte was last of eight on her black-type bow in the Listed Ballymacoll Stud S. also at that distance at Newbury June 15. Brought back from that disappointing effort, the bay showed marked improvement in a first-time hood when third in the Listed Chalice S. over this trip at Newmarket Aug. 5 and took another leap forward here as the favourite Mori (GB) (Frankel {GB}) ran below expectations. Settled worse than mid-division early by Daniel Muscutt, she was coaxed between rivals and into the lead with 2 1/2 furlongs remaining and stayed on strongly from More Mischief, with Aljezeera gaining some late momentum having looked a forlorn hope in early straight.
Trainer James Fanshawe was relieved to see the filly he had believed he had earlier in the season. “I always really liked her, but she got very upset in the Newbury listed race I had won the year before with Speedy Boarding and after that it was back to square one,” he explained. “Philippa [Cooper of Normandie Stud] insisted on another listed race and so I put a hood on her at Newmarket and this was the logical next step. She had to improve, but she did work very well last Wednesday. She hit the front early enough, but Daniel [Muscutt] said the race collapsed in front of him. She didn't have much experience and so was vulnerable, but she saw the trip out very well. She's settling better now and she is in at Ascot on Champions Day [in the Oct. 21 G1 Qipco British Champions Fillies & Mares S.] and the [Sept. 30 G2] Prix de Royallieu [at Chantilly]. It's great to win Sir Henry's race. We all miss him a lot on the gallops.”
The dam is a half to the Listed Conqueror S. winner and G1 Coronation S. and G2 Sun Chariot S.-placed Dolores (GB) (Danehill), who is herself responsible for four black-type performers including the G1 Irish St Leger dead-heater Duncan (GB) (Dalakhani {Ire}) who also won the G2 Yorkshire Cup and G2 Prix Foy, the G2 Doncaster Cup scorer Samuel (GB) (Sakhee) and G2 Park Hill S. winner Gretchen (GB) (Galileo {Ire}). From the family of the G2 Sun Chariot S. scorer Talented (GB) (Bustino {GB}) and her Classic-placed son Carlton House (Street Cry {Ire}), she has a yearling colt by Raven's Pass who will be offered as lot 1624 during Book 3 of the Tattersalls October Sale.
