Second in the G2 Goodwood Cup last July, Quest For More was 16th in the G3 Geelong Cup over 12 furlongs in October and ninth in the G1 Melbourne Cup the following month before returning this year to be second in the Listed Grand Cup over 14 furlongs at York May 21. Third in the Listed Silver Cup over the same course and distance July 9, the bay was sixth in the latest edition of the Goodwood Cup July 28 before making all in the G2 Lonsdale Cup over two miles at York Aug. 19. Those tactics were applied again in the Sept. 9 G2 Doncaster Cup over another quarter mile, but he was caught close home by Sheikhzayedroad (GB) (Dubawi {Ire}) and nosed out of that prestigious staying contest. Held up this time in another switch of ploy, he had Vazirabad just ahead and after allowing him first run in the straight stayed on out wide to reel him in with 100 metres remaining. Winning jockey George Baker said, “He's a special horse, but didn't travel with his normal fluency today. I just let him find his feet and I knew he'd stay well, he's a model of consistency.” Alain de Royer-Dupre said of the runner-up, “He ran a gallant race and we can't complain. If he is well, he will probably return for the [Oct. 23] G1 Prix Royal-Oak.” Quest For More is a half-brother to Macaw, winner of the GIII Elkhorn S. and second in the GI Canadian International and GI Sword Dancer Invitational H., while the dam No Quest is a half to the G1 Poule d'Essai des Poulains-winning sire No Pass No Sale (Ire) and the G3 Prix de Sandringham scorer Once in My Life (Ire) (Lomond). This is also from the family of the GII American H. winner and G2 Futurity S. runner-up Ryehill Dreamer (Ire) (Catcher In the Rye {Ire}) and the GII San Bernardino H.-winning sire Anshan (GB).
