Teofilo's Tantheem Takes the Cabourg In Style

Second to High Dream Milena (Fr) (Dabirsim {Fr}) on debut over this six-furlong trip at Chantilly June 17, Tantheem made strides forward next time when scoring with authority over 6 1/2 furlongs on the Polytrack at this circuit July 5. In the interim, High Dream Milena had been arguably unlucky not to win the G2 Prix Robert Papin after meeting interference and ending up fourth with connections now seeking to appeal. Sent straight to the stand's rail and the lead from her wide draw by Mickael Barzalona, the Shadwell homebred began to turn the screw approaching the furlong pole and stayed on strongly to draw away for a resounding success. “She's a light but tough filly and there were some question marks as she was coming back from the all-weather over a shorter trip, but she has speed as well as staying well,” trainer Freddy Head commented. “The further she went, the better she was going which is a good sign. Regarding her future, I will not commit immediately to the [Aug. 20 G1 Prix] Morny as I want to discuss it with her owner and the racing manager.”

Tantheem becomes the first black-type winner for Riqa, who was listed-placed on three occasions and is a daughter of the Listed Prix Yacowlef third Thamarat. She is in turn a half-sister to the G1 Prix Jacques le Marois and G1 Prix Jean Prat-winning sire Tamayuz (GB) and a granddaughter of the G3 Prix de Flore winner Allez Les Trois (Riverman). The latter is responsible for the G1 Prix du Jockey-Club-winning sire Anabaa Blue (GB) and the smart Godolphin runners Reunite (Ire) (Kingmambo) and Measured Tempo (GB) (Sadler's Wells) and is a half-sister to the outstanding Urban Sea (Miswaki) whose legendary influence continues to dominate world racing. Riqa also has a filly foal by Kingman (GB).
