A yearling filly from the first crop of multiple Grade I-winning War Front stallion The Factor topped the opening, consignor preferred session of the Ocala Breeders' Sales Company's Winter Mixed and Horses of Racing Age Sale Wednesday, bringing $190,000 from George Bolton and Peter Leidel.
A total of 124 head sold for a combined $2,462,200. The average of $19,856 represented a 3% increase from last year's corresponding session. The median dropped by 29.3% from $15,000 to $10,600.
Kim Harrison of Top Speed Farm consigned the session topper as hip 105. “We were expecting a pretty good price, but maybe not that much,” revealed Harrison, who sold the Louisiana-bred on behalf of breeders Summer Grove Farm LLC & Terry Gabriel. “We were thrilled. We knew she was going to bring a lot of money… She's an athlete–just a pure, classy athlete. She came in and did everything right. She was the perfect horse to have come into your barn.” Of her overall market impressions, Harrison said, “I thought it was a pretty good market. It was the same old thing–the horses that should've brought a lot of money did, and you know the ones that aren't going to bring a lot of money.”
The session topper is a half to stakes winner and GSP Southern Dude (Lion Tamer). Bolton, who co-campaigned The Factor, owns September's GIII Noble Damsel S. heroine Annecdote (GB) (Lucky Story) with New York-based financier Leidel.
The top price paid for a mare was $80,000 for Pyrite Final (Formal Dinner) (hip 44) in foal to Kantharos. The half sister to three stakes winners–one the dam of MGSW Too Much Bling (Rubiano)–went for $80,000 to Robert and Mary Harris's Harris Training Center. Pyrite Final is responsible for last year's stakes-placed juvenile Morgans Harbour (Graeme Hall). Boutte Sales, Agent II consigned Pyrite Final.
The sale concludes today with an open session (hips 195-392) and the horses of racing age session (hips 393-513). Selling begins at 10:30 a.m. Visit obssales.com for more.
