The 2026 Mark O'Hanlon Memorial Racing and Breeding Quiz is set to take place on Friday, January 16 and is returning to its regular haunt of the Lord Bagenal Hotel in Leighlinbridge, Co Carlow. It coincides with the ITM Irish Stalion Trail, which is running on the Friday and Saturday with more than 30 farms across Ireland opening their doors to visitors.

Always fiercely, if not fairly, contested, the quiz was won last year by the team of Bobby and Mouse O'Ryan, Ryan McElligott and Gerald Connolly, who regularly feature in or near the top spot.

Organiser Joe Foley said, “Their team won again by one point, with loads of cheating, and beating the previous year's winning team. There is bound to be a big turn out again this year. I've already told Willie Mullins he has to enter a team.”

The quiz is run annually in memory of the much-missed Irish Thoroughbred Marketing executive Mark O'Hanlon, who died in 2015. It gets underway at 8pm and is free to enter. Teams must consist of no more than four people.
