The Right Blend?

Red Label winning at Gowran | Racing Post

If there is an Irish-trained colt outside of Ballydoyle who has the potential to emerge as a serious Irish Derby challenger it could be Red Label (Ire) (Dubawi {Ire}), who puts his credentials on the line in Sunday's G3 Airlie Stud Gallinule S. at The Curragh. Marking his debut for the Jessie Harrington stable with a defeat of Ballydoyle's Taj Mahal (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) in a conditions event over an extended nine furlongs at Gowran Park Apr. 30, Jon Kelly's relative of Goldikova (Ire) (Anabaa) is open to an abundance of improvement. “He seems to have come forward from that run and I am quite happy with the rain, although I'd like to see him on good ground as well,” his trainer commented. “He is up another step and we'll probably know more about him after this.” Interestingly, of the three Aidan O'Brien-trained runners Ryan Moore is on the least-accomplished Homesman (War Front), a half-brother to US Ranger who was the 4 1/2-length runner-up to Irishcorrespondent (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) in a mile conditions race here a fortnight ago.
