The Time Is Now

Sunday's G3 Derrinstown Stud 1000 Guineas Trial at Leopardstown looks set up for Now Or Never (Ire) (Bushranger {Ire}) to bolster her claims for the May 22 G1 Irish 1000 Guineas at The Curragh. Second in this track's seven-furlong 1,000 Guineas Trial Apr. 10, where the subsequent G1 1000 Guineas third Alice Springs (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) and re-opposing Radiantly (GB) (Aussie Rules) were 2 3/4 lengths and three lengths away in third and fourth, respectively, the Michael O'Callaghan-trained filly has to cope with much livelier ground here. “All mine are improving for a run. We had a wet winter and a cold spring, so we didn't kill them and let them come on for a run,” O'Callaghan said. “It looks a nice opportunity. Hopefully we get the bit of rain that's forecast. Genuine good ground is fine for her. She just wants a bit of give as she has a bit of a knee action. She's a genuine filly and we're hoping she runs a big race.”

Willie McCreery is happy to commit the Niarchos colour-bearer Radiantly to the rematch, with the prospect of a faster surface swinging things in her favour. “She came forward nicely from her first run and I'm looking forward to seeing her on good ground,” he commented. “She had a lovely run first time when the ground wouldn't have been ideal.” Despite her mercurial form, Susan Magnier's Kind of Magic (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) warrants respect from the Ballydoyle stable, which is dominating with its 3-year-old fillies, and she did muster a black-type success in The Curragh's Listed Flame of Tara S. over a mile in August.
