Three In The Mix

Daban | Racing Post

Withdrawn from Saturday's G2 Hungerford S. due to the rain-softened ground, a trio of group-winning fillies in Daban (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}), Spangled (GB) (Starspangledbanner {Aus}) and Mix and Mingle (Ire) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) instead square up in the G3 Sky Bet City of York S. on Thursday. The former, who carries the colours of Abdullah Saeed Al Naboodah, was third in the G1 1000 Guineas at Newmarket on May 7 in between a win in the G3 Nell Gwyn S. over this trip there on Apr. 19 and a sixth in Royal Ascot's G3 Jersey S. on June 21. Cheveley Park Stud's Spangled is having her belated first start of the season here, having signed off 2016 with success in the G3 Sceptre S. over this trip at Doncaster in September, while Mix and Mingle bids to bounce back from a 12th placing in the G2 Duke of Cambridge S. at Royal Ascot on June 21, having previously captured the G3 Chartwell Fillies' S. at Lingfield at this distance on May 13. 'TDN Rising Star' Talaayeb (GB) (Dansili {GB}) was 1 1/4 lengths behind Daban when fourth in the 1000 Guineas, which was a highly creditable effort on only her second career start. While she was subsequently disappointing when seventh in the Listed Ballymacoll Stud S. at Newbury on June 15, her trainer Owen Burrows showed what he can do with good horses coming back from a break when Massaat (Ire) (Teofilo {Ire}) took the Hungerford.
