Trainer Jamie Osborne will “roll the dice” and allow GI Pacific Classic runner-up Toast Of New York (Thewayyouare) to run in the GI Breeders' Cup Classic at Santa Anita Nov. 1. Osborne acknowledges that the colt must overcome never having raced over conventional dirt, but remains optimistic following the G2 UAE Derby winner's effort Aug. 24. Toast Of New York finished an excellent second behind Shared Belief (Candy Ride {Arg}) in the mile-and-a-quarter Pacific Classic, in which the venerable Game On Dude (Awesome Again) was fourth. Should things go to plan at Santa Anita, Michael Buckley's colt will be pointed toward Meydan's G1 Dubai World Cup in March of next year.
“That [GI Breeders' Cup Classic] poses a lot of questions, but they are questions that need answering,” commented Osborne to At The Races. “People who know more about dirt racing than I do say he's got the physique and action of a dirt horse. We'll roll the dice and have a go. As a trial for [the] Breeders' Cup Classic, forgetting the surface issue, it [the Pacific Classic] was probably the best there has been. It wasn't flaky form, put it that way.”
