Clearly enjoying his second foray to the Japan Racing Horse Association select sale, Qatar's Sheikh Fahad Al Thani turned back challenges fromᅠsome of Japan's most prominent owners, includingᅠMakoto Kaneko, to halter a yearling son of Deep Impact (Jpn) for ᆬ260 million ($2,549,020). The colt, Hip 53, is out of English GI winner Listen (Ire) (Sadler's Well), a sister to the dam of Henrythenavigator (Kingmambo). “He looks like a champion,” said a beaming Sheikh Fahad after posing for photos with the handsome dark bay, which was bred by and consigned by Katsumi Yoshida's Northern Farm. The price surpassed the highest bid of the 2013 JRHA sale, the ᆬ240 million paid for a colt foal by Deep Impact out of American Horse of the Year Azeri (Jade Hunter). Sheikh Fahad told a JRHA sale official that he would race the colt in Japan.
