Dream Dancing was no match for Coasted at first asking when that one earned 'TDN Rising Star' status for a Saratoga romp last August, but the Oxley homebred exacted some belated revenge after some anxious moment here.
Last seen posting a visually impressive two-length score over course and distance Jan. 28, the grey was well-supported as the second choice and soon proved why. Unhurried early while saving all the ground, Dream Dancing moved out a path to sit in between horses while hard held down the backside. In tight approaching the stretch as Coasted launched a three-wide bid, Dream Dancing was tipped outside, then back inside, where she was briefly stopped again. Eventually making her way to the rail, she wore down the chalk late to prevail by a neck.
“It cost her some momentum [coming on the inside],” trainer Mark Casse said. “She has turned out to be a pretty good horse. I think the further the better. She's a beautiful filly–the Oxleys bred her. We're very proud of her. It's been a Tapit kind of day so far [referring to his win with Inheritthewind in Race 2].”
Dream Dancing followed her maiden win at second asking over the Saratoga lawn with three straight off-the-board finishes in graded stakes on the dirt, including a fifth-place finish in the GI Darley Alcibiades S. at Keeneland Oct. 7 and a seventh-place finish in the GII Golden Rod S. at Churchill Nov. 26. Her aforementioned last out local tally was her first attempt on grass since her maiden breaker.
Pedigree Notes:
Dream Dancing is a granddaughter of champion and GI Breeders' Cup Distaff heroine Beautiful Pleasure (Maudlin), acquired by John C. Oxley for $480,000 as a KEEAPR juvenile. Dream Dancing's unraced dam To Dream About, sired by Oxley's late GI Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos, has also produced a pair of graded stakes placed runners and is currently represented by a Tapit yearling colt.
