Triple Bend Rematch in Bing Crosby

Lord Nelson | Benoit

Lord Nelson (Pulpit) and Subtle Indian (Indian Charlie), one-two in the GI Triple Bend S. at Santa Anita June 25, lock horns once again in Sunday's GI Bing Crosby S. at Del Mar, a 'Win and You're In' for the GI Breeders' Cup Sprint.

Lord Nelson, hero of the 2015 GII San Vicente S., kicked off his 4-year-old campaign with a smart win in an optional claimer in Arcadia June 3 prior to his aforementioned half-length tally over Subtle Indian, both good for 100 Beyer Speed Figures. He concluded his 3-year-old campaign with a third-place finish in Runhappy (Super Saver)'s GI Malibu S.

Subtle Indian, meanwhile, had a four-race winning streak snapped when second in the GII Kona Gold S. at Santa Anita May 21. He previously captured the Hot Springs S. Mar. 5 and GIII Count Fleet H. Apr. 10, both at Oaklawn Park.

“Mike Smith was impressed with Subtle Indian's work the other day [5f in 1:00.60 at Del Mar July 24] and [he's] taken well to the track and the surroundings down here,” trainer Robertino Diodoro said. “You always worry about that. Even if it's only two hours south from Santa Anita, the surfaces are different and sometimes horses can go a little funny on you.”

'TDN Rising Star' Justin Squared (Zensational), a winner of his first three attempts, including Pimlico's Chick Lang S. May 21, looks to get back on track after a very disappointing performance in the GII Woody Stephens S. on the GI Belmont S. undercard.
