Tropics Likely For Breeders' Cup

Dean Ivory's 7-year-old gelding Tropics (Speightstown), in the frame is many of Europe's top sprints but yet to win at the highest level, is likely to make the trip to Kentucky for the GI Breeders' Cup Sprint. Ivory, who also trains Tropics, said, “I have never been invited to the Breeders' Cup with a horse before so I will probably end up going there for the Sprint with Tropics. It is something new to me and it may never happen again. We might go straight there, but you can never say never.”

Tropics was a nose second to Sheikh Hamdan's exciting sophomore Muhaarar (GB) (Oasis Dream {GB}) in the G1 July Cup at Newmarket July 11, and was most recently fifth in the valuable Stewards' Cup H. at Goodwood Saturday under top weight.

“It was the weight that did him,” Ivory said. “He was only beaten a couple of lengths, but I thought he put on a real good show. We decided to run him in the Stewards' Cup as there was a long wait until the [Listed] Hopeful S. at Newmarket [in late August]. He was so well in himself that I had no choice but to take a bit of a chance. He would have preferred a little bit more cut in the ground, but nonetheless he still ran a blinder.”
