Freddy Tylicki, who was paralysed from the waist down after falling in a four-horse pileup at Kempton at the end of October, has been released from St George's Hospital in Tooting and moved to a specialist spinal centre in Middlesex, where he will begin rehabilitation. The 30-year-old Tylicki was airlifted to St George's after the accident, spending 15 days in intensive care before being moved to the general spinal ward in mid-November. Tylicki has now taken up residence at the London Spinal Cord Injury Centre in Stanmore.
Tylicki tweeted on Tuesday, “I have been waiting on this day for a long time and it's finally come!! On the road to the rehab clinic #nextchapter #keepfighting.”
Lisa Hancock, chief executive of the Injured Jockeys Fund, said, “I think he's been in St George's seven weeks now, so to get him into rehab before Christmas is great news. I'm sure it's a great relief to Freddy and his family that he's now on the road to rehabilitation. It's really positive news.”
The racing community has rallied for Tylicki since his life-changing accident. A GoFundMe page, set up by ITV and At The Races presenter Matt Chapman following the incident, raised more than £300,000 for Tylicki.
