European raiders Vadamos (Fr) (Monsun {Ger}) and Tryster (Ire) (Shamardal) have been confirmed for the A$3-million G1 Cox Plate on Oct. 22.
Vadamos, winner of the G3 Prix Messidor in July, further boosted his credentials with a victory in the G1 Qatar Prix du Moulin de Longchamp over a mile at Chantilly last weekend for owner/breeder Haras de Saint Pair and trainer Andre Fabre.
Godolphin's Tryster, winner of the G1 Jebel Hatta during the Dubai Carnival for trainer Charlie Appleby, was third in the G1 Dubai Turf and has been off the board in both starts this summer–a fifth in the G1 Prince of Wales's S. at Royal Ascot and a latest eighth in the GI Arlington Million Aug. 13.
“It's a fantastic result to have two international horses confirmed to compete in one of Australia's most prestigious races prepared by globally renowned trainers Andre Fabre and Godolphin's Charlie Appleby,” Racing Victoria's International Recruitment Manager Leigh Jordon told Racing.com. “Vadamos was a dominant winner in the G1 Qatar Prix Du Moulin de Longchamp recently and has campaigned really well this preparation and brings some strong international form to the race.”
Jordon added, “Godolphin continue to show their hunger to win Australia's premier races and Tryster reignites their Cox Plate participation. He has been highly competitive in Group 1 company this year and holds an exceptional 2000 metre record.”
