Vanity Rematch Possible in Hirsch

Champions Beholder (Henny Hughes) and Stellar Wind (Curlin), who finished one-two in the GI Vanity Mile June 4, could face off again in the GI Clement L. Hirsch S. at Del Mar July 30 and both worked a half-mile at Santa Anita Sunday morning in preparation.

With Janeen Painter in the irons, three-time Eclipse winner Beholder covered the distance in :48.60 (42/111) with fractional times of :23.60 and :35.60.

“It was an easy half,” Hall of Famer Richard Mandella said of the Spendthrift Farm runner's work.

Hronis Racing's Stellar Wind breezed her four furlongs in :47.80 (18/111) with an opening quarter clocked in :24.60.

“”Very good,” trainer John Sadler said of the work. “She came out of the Vanity very well and this was her first work back. We're considering several races, and the Hirsch is one of them.”
