Michael Burn, chairman of the Victoria Racing Club since June 2011 and a VRC director for 13 years, has resigned from his role, according to Racing.com. Burn is also executive director of the Macquarie Group.
“Given my lengthy tenure in the role, I have been contemplating for some months when would be the right time to step down,” Burn said. “I'm also mindful that recent events could lead to perceptions of tension between my role at the Club and my professional responsibilities as a banker. Consequently, I have decided following the conclusion of AGM formalities yesterday, now is the right time to leave.
He added, “The VRC is in terrific shape today and deserves its place among the country's premier sporting bodies. I am proud of the outstanding progress the Club's Board and Management have been able to achieve during my tenure. I thank the Board and Management for their support and wish the Club every success in the future. I will remain a passionate member of the Club.”
