Wagering Suspended on Mississippi in Derby Future Pool

Updated: April 5, 2018 at 6:19 pm

Trainer Mark Casse after Noble Bird with Julien Leparoux up wins the G3 Pimlico Special, Pimlico Race Course, Baltimore, MD 5.20.2016.

Betting will be suspended on GI Florida Derby third-place finisher Mississippi (Pioneerof the Nile) in the fourth and final pool of the GI Kentucky Derby Future Wager, which opens its three-day run at noon Friday and concludes at 6p.m. Sunday. Trainer Mark Casse has decided to point the colt to the GIII Pat Day Mile on the Derby undercard May 5 rather than the Run for the Roses.

With the defection of Mississippi, the year's final Kentucky Derby Future pool will consist of a total of 23 betting interests that include 22 individual horses and the Mutuel Field (#24), or “All Others”, a wager that includes all 3-year-old Thoroughbreds other than the remaining individuals.
