Wagering Up For The Championships

The third renewal of The Championships, staged Apr. 2 and 9 at Royal Randwick in Sydney, Australia, saw wagering turnover increase by 30% on the 2015 renewal, and 19% on 2014.

The day one turnover was up 39% on last year; however, it is important to note last year's day one card was postponed to Easter Monday due to weather. This year's day one wagering grew by 29% on the 2014 renewal. Day two turnover was up 21% on last year.

“The wagering surge throughout Australia is proof that The Championships has captured punters' interest, and its growth in three years has been nothing less than phenomenal,” said Racing NSW Chief Executive Peter V'landys. “We are confident that it will continue to build on this success in the future.”
