Australian superstar Winx (Aus) (Street Cry {Ire}) will have three starts in Sydney in the spring leading up to her G1 Cox Plate defense Oct. 22, trainer Chris Waller told Racing and Sports. The soon-to-be 5-year-old mare returned to the Waller stable from a spell a few weeks ago, and the champion conditioner noted the mare, unbeaten in her last nine runs, would kick off her season in the 1400-metre G2 Warwick S. Aug. 20. She will aim to step up to the one-mile G2 Chelmsford S. two weeks later before the G1 George Main S. over the same trip a further two weeks after that. She will then have a five-week break into the Cox Plate.

Waller told Racing and Sports Group 1 winners Preferment (NZ) (Zabeel {NZ}) and Japonisme (Aus) (Choisir {Aus}) had also recently returned from spells.

“Preferment is back and he will be set for the [G1] Turnbull S. [Oct. 2] again and probably the [G1] Mackinnon [now known as the Emirates S., Oct. 31] ,” Waller said. “Japonisme is back in training at the Gold Coast and he will be aimed at Group 1 sprints.”
