Ward Runners Possible For Guineas

Trainer Wesley Ward, who tasted success in Europe last summer with eventual GI Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf winner Hootenanny (Quality Road), could take that 3-year-old back across the Atlantic for the G1 2000 Guineas at Newmarket May 2. The Coolmore colorbearer could also be joined by the Ward-trained Sunset Glow (Exchange Rate), who last year finished second in the G3 Albany S. at Royal Ascot before winning the GI Del Mar Debutante.

Ward noted that Hootenanny, who won the Listed Windsor Castle S. at Royal Ascot and finished second in the G1 Prix Morny, is “going great.”

“He had a nice workout this morning and we're really happy with him,” the conditioner said. “We're thinking about it [the 2000 Guineas]. We lost a little time due to the weather here in Kentucky during the winter, but the race is the first Saturday in May, so we should be right on it. I'll know more when I work him on the grass in a week.”
Of Sunset Glow, who carries the colors of Ten Broeck Farm, Ward said, “She's doing well and she could go to Newmarket as well. We'll see.”
