Trainer Dermot Weld was responsible for the winners of the two Guineas trials held Sunday at Leopardstown in Ireland. In the 1000 Guineas Trial, the previously winless Caribbean Sunset (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}) pulled a 12-1 upset, rallying to beat Halfway to Heaven (Ire) (Pivotal {GB}) by a head. MG1SW Saoirse Abu (Mr. Greeley) was another 2 1/2 lengths back in third, while Ballydoyle's Psalm (GB) (Sadler's Wells) had her saddle slip midway through the race and finished an excusable seventh. In the colts' equivalent, Khalid Abdullah's Famous Name (GB) (Dansili {GB}) took advantage of his preferred underfoot conditions and went on to a popular four-length victory. Moiqen (Ire) (Red Ransom) was second best.
