Well-Bred Medaglia d’Oro Colt Wins Well in NY

3rd-BEL, $75,000, Msw, 3yo/up, 1m, 1:36, ft.
TOUT (c, 3, Medaglia d’Oro–Praise, by Mr. Prospector) an immaculately bred product of the Claiborne Farm/Adele Dilschneider team, got the blinkers off for a one-mile maiden Friday afternoon at Belmont Park and overcame a wide trip for an impressive victory. A half-brother to the successful sires and full-brothers Flatter (GSP, $148,815) and Congrats (GSW & MGISP, $998,960)–both sons of A.P. Indy–the athletic dark bay was a distant and longshot seventh behind subsequent GSP Harpoon (Tapit) trying Gulfstream’s one-turn mile Dec. 26 before hitting the shelf. He was sent to Monmouth Park for a two-turn test in his July 26 return to action and found trouble on the first bend before running on late to complete the exacta. A bit slow to begin after a slight bobble here, Tout–racing without Lasix–was last but two on the backstretch run for Joel Rosario, but began to improve his position while about four deep on the sweeping turn. Asked for an effort approaching the quarter pole, Tout swept past a weakening favorite March Too (Harlan’s Holiday) nearing the final furlong and was able to run down a game Aslan (A.P. Indy) while four or five off the inside in the final 20 yards to prevail by a half-length at odds of 4-1. The winner’s second dam is the outstanding producer Wild Applause (Northern Dancer). Lifetime Record: 3-1-1-0, $53,420. Click for the brisnet.com chart or VIDEO.
