Unbeaten for trainer Christian Sprengel, Boscaccio (Ger) (Mount Nelson {GB}) takes to Cologne on Sunday to defend that tag in the prestigious G2 Oppenheim-Union-Rennen. Having taken Hanover's Listed Derby Trial by three lengths over this trip last time May 16, the bay is likely to be a warm order to lay down a marker for the G1 Deutsches Derby at Hamburg July 10.
As ever, Stall Ullmann's representative requires close scrutiny, and Savoir Vivre (Ire) (Adlerflug {Ger}) carries that distinction. Only fourth when expected to collect at Mulheim last time May 21, the chestnut is a work in progress. Last year's G3 Herzog von Ratibor-Rennen Krefeld winner Parthenius (Ger) (Soldier Hollow {GB}), a full-brother to the top-class Pastorius (Ger), is up to a more suitable trip after finishing fifth in the 8 1/2-furlong G3 Dr Busch-Memorial back there last time Apr. 24, while the Andreas Wohler trainee Cashman (Fr) (Soldier of Fortune {Ire}) is on a high having won a 10-furlong conditions race by six lengths at Dresden last time May 7.
