LOVELY BERNADETTE (f, 2, Wilburn–Inlovewithlove, by Bernstein) broke slowly before rushing up and settling for third in her Arlington debut Aug. 27, but returned to earn her diploma in the Churchill mud Sept. 17, good for a solid 81 Beyer Speed Figure. Flattered when the third finisher from that heat Champagne Problems (Ghostzapper) came back to earn her diploma here Saturday–after fourth-place Farrell (Malibu Moon) had already returned to air under the Twin Spires–she opened a solid favorite before drifting up to 3-1 at the off. Biding her time not too far out of it while hung widest behind splits of :22.01 and :45.80, the bay filly ranged up turning for home and kicked on professionally to secure her second-straight victory by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:18.56. China Grove (City Zip), who broke her maiden impressively here in April and was second in Belmont's Astoria S. in June before three off-the-board tries in stakes company, got up for second. Lovely Bernadette was just an $8,000 Fasig-Tipton October yearling and $28,000 OBS June 2-year-old. Inlovewithlove produced a filly by Stay Thirsty in 2015, a colt by Revolutionary this year and she was bred back to that WinStar stallion.
