Winter Weather Forces Fair Grounds Cancelation

Winter weather and track conditions forced the Fair Grounds to cancel its Thursday program with the New Orleans metropolitan area under a winter storm warning. The track's racing secretary Jason Boulet said Thursday's canceled races would be brought back as extra races beginning Dec. 18, with horses entered Thursday receiving priority. In addition, the track will offer 11-race cards from Dec. 18-22 to make up for Thursday's canceled races. Race six on the Thursday card, an allowance event for 2-year-olds, was to feature a pair of A.P. Indy juveniles, “TDN Rising Star” Indygo Mountain and Friesan Fire, third in the GII Futurity S. It is Fair Grounds' first winter weather cancelation since 1989.
