Written By (Aus) (Written Tycoon {Aus}) has moved onto the first line of betting at 7-1 for the Feb. 24 G1 Blue Diamond S. after staying unbeaten in his second start when winning Saturday's G3 Blue Diamond Prelude (colts and geldings division) at Caulfield. The Grahame Begg trainee, a winner at Sandown on Dec. 2, was one of three stakes winners on the card for his sire.
Stalking the pace in the three path throughout, Written By hit the lead passing the 100 and was comfortably holding Godolphin's highly regarded Plague Stone (Aus) (Lonhro {Aus}) at the line. Begg trained Written Tycoon, and Written By was bred by his father Neville Begg. Written Tycoon's other winners on the card were the 3-year-old filly Booker (Aus) in the 1200m G3 Kevin Hayes S., and Super Cash (Aus) in the 1100m G2 Rubiton S. In Super Cash's wake was last season's standout 3-year-old sprinter Merchant Navy (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), who ran out well enough without being asked for too much after traveling wide.
The fillies also got their chance to stake their claims for a Blue Diamond start on Saturday in the G2 Blue Diamond Prelude fillies' division, and it was Shadwell's Enbihaar (Aus) (Magnus {Aus}) from the powerful Lindsay Park stable that got to the line first after stalking the pace to earn herself a 14-1 quote for the main event. Catching the eye also was the runner-up Oohood (Aus) (I Am Invincible {Aus}), who was off slow and forced very wide off the turn before charging home for second. She was shortened to 8-1 for the Blue Diamond.
