Young Stays Busy
By Justina Severini
Bloodstock agent Steve Young had a busy day, signing for three horses on behalf of undisclosed buyers during the first session. His first buy of the day was hip 6, a colt by Majestic Warrior, he scooped up for $105,000. The colt is the second foal out of stakes winner Fancy Fusaichi (Fusaichi Pegauss) and was bred by Kinsman Farm and consigned by Casse Sales, agent for the breeder. He breezed in :10.1. “[He’s a] very good-moving Majestic Warrior colt raised on a top farm and the horse can fly,” Young explained. “He wasn’t a hard choice.”
Young also picked up a Super Saver filly, hip 42, for $200,000. Bred by WinStar Farm, she was consigned by Woodford Thoroughbreds and breezed in :10.1. The filly is out of stakes winner For Royalty (Not For Love).
“Obviously, she’s from the first crop of Super Saver,” Young commented. “This is the first [Super Saver] I’ve bought. I know they’ve sold well at other sales this spring. She’s also from a top place in WinStar. She trained terrific on the racetrack. All these horses came out of the first day when there was subtle adversity with the weather and her first two dams were stakes winners and she’s a nice filly.”
In addition, Young signed for hip 51, a filly by Broken Vow. Consigned by Wavertree Stables, she went for $140,000 after covering a quarter in :21 flat.
As for the market, Young said, “I think this sale has a lot of momentum because it theoretically spreads out the buyers, so they’re not all concentrated on the same horse. It’s very similar to Keeneland September, in if you come here you should be able to leave with what you want, or some semblance of it.”
