Jean-Claude Rouget finally gained the major British success his career demanded as three-year-old Literato (Fr) (Kendor {Fr}) battled to a short-head success over fellow sophomore Eagle Mountain (GB) (Rock of Gibraltar {Ire}) in yesterdayís G1 Emirates Airlines Champion S. at Newmarket. Aimed at this contest since his runner-up placing in the June 3 G1 Prix du Jockey-Club at Chantilly, Herve Morinís colorbearer cut down the Ballydoyle raider inside the final furlong and bravely withstood his rally to emerge triumphant as the 7-2 second choice. ìHeís small, but heís great,î jockey Christophe-Patrice Lemaire commented. ìHe traveled very well all the way and I know heís a fighter, but Eagle Mountain is a tough horse and he had to give his best today.î
