Susan Moore and M & M Thoroughbred Partners' Zaftig (Gone West), who notched her first Grade I with a victory over Indian Blessing in the Acorn S. June 7, will miss an intended start in the GI Mother Goose S. June 28 due to a foot bruise, Daily Racing Form reports. Zaftig was set to clash with divisional leader Proud Spell in the Mother Goose. The GI Kentucky Oaks heroine worked five furlongs in 1:01 flat yesterday at Fair Hill Training Center. Trained by Jimmy Jerkens, Zaftig has won three of five lifetime, including the GIII Nassau County BC S. at Belmont May 3. Zaftig earned a 113 Beyer for her Acorn win, the best number awarded to a sophomore of either sex this year. Jerkens told DRF the foot bruise occurred shortly after the Acorn and the big filly, after walking the shed row for several days, is nearing a return to training.
