Owner Ahmed Zayat is returning to California. After removing his horses from the Golden State during the summer of 2007 due to concerns over the synthetic surfaces, Zayat will return “10 to 12” horses to California, according to Racing Manager Sobhy Sonbol. “After seeing the Breeders' Cup and after the changes that have been made and with everybody getting their learning curve up and the management of the surfaces, et cetera, we have decided to send a string back to California,” Sonbol told the TDN. Zayat's horses will be trained by Todd Pletcher, their former trainer Bob Baffert and Mike Mitchell, who will train for the operation for the first time. “We can't see ourselves in California without utilizing the services of Bob Baffert,” Sonbol commented.
