Successful over a mile on the July Course here in August and at the same trip at Salisbury the following month, Ventura Storm beat only one rival when 10th in the G1 PRIX Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp on Arc day. Tracking the pace in second early, the bay was gradually stocked up by Ryan Moore to take the lead with two furlongs remaining and when tackled by Mustajeer pulled out extra to assert. “He's a really lovely horse and switched off well. Ryan said he'd get a mile and a quarter and he was very pleased with him,” trainer Richard Hannon said. “I've not given it much thought, but the [June 16] G3 Tercentenary S. at Royal Ascot might be an idea. He seemed to like this ground and is straightforward. Our horses have generally needed a run and he would have needed that, but he was probably good enough to.” The owning syndicate's racing manager Tim Palin added, “He is in the German 2000 Guineas [G2 Mehl-Mulhens-Rennen at Cologne May 16], but that won't happen. He'll be in the G2 Dante S. [at York May 12] and the French Derby [G1 Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly June 5] and the [G2] Italian Derby [at Rome May 22]. He could go somewhere before the French Derby, but would go straight to Italy.” Mustajeer's trainer Owen Burrows commented, “He did everything right. He settled nicely and we're very pleased. We'll get him back and make a plan. I thought he was going to get to Ryan's horse, but he just kept finding that little bit more. I'm sure he'll get further. I think he's a mile-and-a-quarter, mile-and-a-half horse ultimately.” Click for the Racing Post result. Video, sponsored by Fasig-Tipton.
