Trying seven furlongs for the first time here, the confidently-backed Washington DC who took the Listed Windsor Castle S. over five at Royal Ascot in June and was last seen finishing runner-up to Air Force Blue (War Front) in the G1 Phoenix S. over six at The Curragh in August, raced freely in behind the leading trio. Sent to the front with 1 1/2 furlongs remaining, the bay who was also runner-up in the Listed Marble Hill S. at The Curragh last May asserted to record a convincing success from the promising Alphonsus. “He had some very good form and has a fair amount of ability,” his jockey told Irish-Racing.com. “He did things right. He travelled very easily and quickened. He has plenty of class.”
