No Doubting MM Session Topper

Team Gangemi Racing with lot 50 | Magic Millions

Magic Millions hosted the first day of their Perth Yearling Sale on Monday, and it was a colt by Not A Single Doubt (Aus) (Redoute's Choice {Aus}) who was the clear standout, selling for A$325,000. Following a solid day of trade, both the gross of A$4.33M and average of A$38,319 finished ahead of last year, however the clearance rate dipped five points from last year to 72%, something that Magic Millions managing director Vin Cox lamented.

“There's been some very good sales obviously with the top price of A$325,000,” said Cox. “We are disappointed with the clearance rate–sitting around 72%. By our standards we'd like to be at 75% or even into the 80s. The numbers are very much in line with day one last year and there's some very nice horses tomorrow and I'm hoping for a good finish to the sale. When the good horses come into the ring the competition is fierce.”

Consigned by Amelia Park Racing and Breeding as lot 50, the session-topping yearling was knocked down to Gangemi Racing and will head to the stables of Chris Gangemi.

“We had to wait and bide our time and we're really happy to get him,” said Michael Gangemi. “We had narrowed it down to a few lots and he was the main one we wanted. The stallion is on fire, they just get up and run.”

Born Oct. 22, the chestnut colt is the fourth living foal of the winning mare Sambar (Aus) (More Than Ready) and is therefore a half-brother to the Group 3 winner Samovare (Aus) (Savabeel {Aus}).

Gamgemi continued,”He's beautifully balanced and is a great walker. He's a strong horse and we're delighted to have acquired him and moving forward hopefully we can get him up and going for the early 2-year-old races. His attitude is amazing as well. I'm sure he got pulled out a lot of times and there were a lot of good judges on him.”

The colt was one of eight individual lots to sell for A$100,000 or more on Monday. The second mst expensive yearling was lot 109, a colt by Star Witness (Aus) from Gervase Park Stud who sold to Ric Wylie Bloodstock for A$160,000. The colt is the second foal of Trading Halt (Aus) (Econsul {Aus}), a winner in Melbourne and a half-sister to group winner Bank Robber (Aus) (Dash For Cash {Aus}). The first to reach six figures was lot 18, a colt by Hinchinbrook (Aus) that sold for A$100,000 to the connections of this month's G1 Ladbrokes C. F. Orr S. winner Black Heart Bart (Aus) (Blackfriars {Aus}). The second day of the sale commences at 11 a.m. local time on Tuesday with lot 171.
