Mousai (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}), a half-sister to world champion sprinter and shuttle sire Starspangledbanner (Aus) (Choisir {Aus}), made a winning debut at Racing.com Park on Thursday night for a Coolmore partnership. The 3-year-old filly is trained by the Lindsay Park team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig, and was a A$700,000 purchase by Coolmore Australia at the 2015 Inglis Easter yearling sale.
Rider Dwayne Dunn told Racing.com, “Her trials had been pretty basic, but I think you can tell why David [Hayes] brought her here tonight–to get on a good surface, and I think she appreciated it. I hadn't seen her at home, but she's a lovely type of horse, and she's strong enough. What I find with this breed is the older they get, the better they get. She's strong enough, but it's a matter of putting it all together now.”
“It was a nice debut,” added Lindsay Park representative Dara O'Meachair. “Dwayne gave her a lovely run, settling just off the speed. I really liked the way she hit the line the last 100 metres, she looked like she was just holding the runner-up at the furlong, but her last 100 metres she really stretched and put a margin on the runner-up.”
Mousai is out of Gold Anthem (Aus) (Made Of Gold) who, in addition to Starspangledbanner, has produced the dam of G1 Thousand Guineas winner Amicus (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}). It is also the family of highweights Elvstroem (Aus) (Danehill), Haradasun (Aus) (Fusaichi Pegasus) and Highland Reel (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}).
