Lindsay Park is in negotiations to secure two slots for the A$10-million The Everest, Australia's buy-in sprint at Randwick in October. Modeled after the Stronach Group's GI Pegasus World Cup, The Everest offers 12 slots to be purchased for A$600,000 apiece, all of which are already spoken for. Slot holders are entitled to run any horse in their name, sell their slot or partner with other owners as they see fit, and therefore Lindsay Park is working with slot owners in an attempt to get Everest starts for G1 Newmarket H. winner Redkirk Warrior (GB) (Notnowcato {GB}) and recent G1 Goodwood S. winner Vega Magic (Aus) (Lope de Vega {Ire}).
“The owners don't have a ticket but if we could get a deal it would be great to have two horses,” Lindsay Park head trainer David Hayes told Racing and Sports. “We're looking at The Everest because it's eight times bigger than any sprint we have in Australia. You miss a couple of weight-for-age races, which wouldn't be a worry as they could then run at Flemington before traveling to Hong Kong.”
“There hasn't been a deal struck but when they're fully in work the people that have tickets I've invited up to Lindsay Park to watch them work and then they might be able to do a deal,” he added. “If a ticket holder could pick up a first-up Newmarket winner or a first-up Goodwood winner, I'm sure they would beat most 2- or 3-year-olds.”
