Six Straight For Sebring Filly In Oaks

Three-year-old filly Egg Tart made it six wins on the bounce and confirmed her status as a rising star stayer with a commanding win in Saturday's G1 Queensland Oaks. Coming off a maiden Group 1 score in the Schweppes Oaks at Morphettville on May 6, Egg Tart settled midpack as the field raced into the first bend on Saturday. Dropping back a few positions as Invincibella led the charge down the backstretch, Egg Tart was switched to the outside by Kerrin McEvoy passing the 1000 metre mark. Eight lengths off the lead as they turned for home, the bay swung wide and came with a charge down the middle of the track. Hitting the lead passing the 100 metre mark, she hit the line going away in a handride.

Egg Tart broke her maiden over 1550 metres at Canterbury last November and has clearly enjoyed every bit of distance that has been added this campaign. Handy enough to win when dropped back down to 1300 metres at Beaumont on Mar. 11, she added wins going 1400 metres and a mile at Warwick Farm and Flemington, respectively, before enduring a huge jump in class to take the 2010 metre Schweppes Oaks over Saturday's third-placed Keneda.

Egg Tart was picked up by her ownership group for just A$40,000 at Inglis Easter from Jorson Farm, and that nursery's Julie Brown said, “She was always an athletic filly with a nice hip on her but she wasn't a big, strong, heavy filly, plus she was a late foal. She was a filly who never stood out in the crowd but I reckon she stands out pretty well now.”

Egg Tart has more than paid back her purchase price, now bankrolling almost A$800,000, and she will likely be set for a Cups campaign in the spring.

Pedigree Notes…

Egg Tart's unraced dam, Mrs Windsor, has a yearling colt by Sebring's son Shamus Award (Aus) to come. Mrs Windsor is herself out of Born To Be Queen, placed in the G1 Oaks and G1 Victoria Derby. She went on to produce a pair of Group 1 winners in Heart Ruler (Aus) (Marscay {Aus}) and Coronation Day (Aus) (Bletchingly {Aus}).
