Who Do You Admire: Bob Elliston

Today, we kick off a series in which we have posed the question above to a series of racing industry participants. The only rule is that you cannot choose your own boss.

BOB ELLISTON, KEENELAND: Seth Hancock

In my nearly 20-year career in the horse business, I have had the privilege to know and work with many giants of the sport, but none more so influential on my career and me personally than Seth Hancock. A month into my first job in horse racing, as president of Turfway Park, I asked Seth to meet with me to garner his perspective on the racing industry, and specifically how Turfway Park fit with the Kentucky racing circuit. That meeting was the first of many that shaped not only how I have approached my career in racing, but also how I approach personal and business relationships. Character, honor, integrity, and passion for what you believe in are hallmarks of how Seth lives his life, and runs his affairs, and what he has instilled within me. I have been fortunate to have his generous time and counsel to anchor to when opportunities arise, or tough decisions need to be made. As I move into the third decade of my involvement in this great sport, I am also heartened and optimistic about the future, as I see many of those same traits, and personal ethics passed on to the next generation of leaders like Seth's children Walker and Allison. I have been, and continue to be, fortunate for the time and friendship Seth has shared with me.
