Kingman QEII Bid in Doubt
KINGMAN QEII BID IN DOUBT
Khalid Abdullah’s star sophomore miler Kingman (GB) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}) may be forced to miss the G1 Queen Elizabeth II S. at Ascot Oct. 18 after connections revealed he is being treated for a throat infection discovered Saturday.
“Obviously it is less than ideal for a preparation going into a big race, but [the QEII] is still a month away,” said Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to Khalid Abdullah. “We would be hopeful of still getting him to the QEII, but it is far from certain. We would want to be sure that the horse is 100% fit before we do anything, and then we can make a decision on his immediate future and also on his whole future.”
Grimthorpe noted that if Kingman, the winner of this year’s G1 Irish 2000 Guineas, G1 St James’s Palace S., G1 Sussex S. and G1 Prix Jacques le Marois, missed the QEII he could travel to Santa Anita for the GI Breeders’ Cup Mile.
