Shared Belief Fine after Awesome Win

Shared Belief (Candy Ride {Arg}), who remained unbeaten in seven starts with his determined win in Saturday’s GI Awesome Again S., is on target for the Nov. 1 GI Breeders’ Cup Classic. “He came out of it real nice,” trainer Jerry Hollendorfer said. “Everything’s good.”
Jockey Mike Smith, aboard last year’s juvenile champion, was still talking Sunday about his trip in the Awesome Again, particularly Victor Espinoza’s ride aboard the Bob Baffert-trained Sky Kingdom (Empire Maker). That longshot drifted out and carried Shared Belief wide on the first turn as the Baffert-trained Fed Biz (Giant’s Causeway) set the pace.
“I don’t know exactly what Victor was doing,” Smith said Sunday morning. “My horse overcame it and showed a lot of fight. He finished the race strong and he had to work for it after being taken out. But he came out of the race good. I just went to see him. He ate up, he’s happy, so all’s good. Sometimes a good race like that will put more in him.”
Of the incident, Hollendorfer said, “We’re big boys out here racing and as long as we won, we overcame a lot, so I’m grateful to get the win.”
