Deja Vu For Diamond Winner?

Godolphin’s Earthquake (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) enjoyed her finest moment on this card a year ago when taking the G1 Blue Diamond S., and she will look to extend her unbeaten record at Caulfield in today’s G1 Oakleigh Plate. Earthquake went unbeaten through her first four starts last year, including the G3 Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies here, the Blue Diamond and Rosehill’s G2 Reisling S., and she was second in the G1 Golden Slipper. She notched a pair of thirds in Group 2 company in Sydney to kick off her 3-year-old campaign, and won the G3 Thoroughbred Club S. when returning to Caulfield Oct. 11. She was eighth in the G1 Coolmore Stud S. against males to wrap up her spring campaign, and has won a pair of Canterbury trials in the lead-up to this, and also enjoys a light impost. Vain Queen (Aus) (Artie Schiller) was a smart winner of the G3 Mumm S. at Flemington when last seen Nov. 6. Her connections considered a first-up run in the G1 Lightning S. last weekend, meaning she must be in good form, and she races well fresh. Flamberge (Aus) (Exceed and Excel {Aus}) pushed Chautauqua (Aus) (Encosta de Lago {Aus}), one of the top-rated sprinters in the country, to a short neck when second in the G2 Rubiton S. first-up here two weeks ago. He will need a little luck, however, to overcome a wide barrier and one of the heavier weight assignments. Fast ‘N’ Rocking (Aus) (Fastnet Rock {Aus}) has been consistent since being gelded after his 3-year-old campaign, finishing out of the top three just once in five starts during the spring, including a win in the G3 Kevin Heffernan S. Nov. 15. The 4-year-old warmed up with a third to It Is Written (Aus) (Written Tycoon {Aus}) in the Listed Abell S. Feb. 6. Shamal Wind (Aus) (Dubawi {Ire}) is another who rarely puts in a bad run, and she won the Listed WJ Adams S. Jan. 26.
