Champ Get Back to ‘Work’

Champion sprinter Work All Week (City Zip) put in his first official work since his victory in the Nov. 1 GI Breeders’ Cup Sprint Wednesday morning at Oaklawn. The chestnut breezed a half-mile in :48.20 with splits of :12.20, :24.20 and :36 for three furlongs, and galloped out five furlongs in 1:02.40.

Trainer Roger Brueggemann said it would be a stretch for the gelding, who just arrived in Hot Springs Mar. 17, to make his 2015 debut in the GIII Count Fleet Sprint H. Apr. 9.

“He came from the farm in excellent shape, so that’s going to help some,” Brueggemann said. “He looks good.”

Brueggemann had originally planned to bring Work All Week in from Florida in February, but his arrival was delayed by weather concerns. With the Count Fleet looking doubtful, the 6-year-old could run in an allowance instead before the meet ends Apr. 11.
