Fabre Confident Of Bay Bold Show
Andre Fabre is confident of a big run from New Bay (GB) (Dubawi [Ire}) as he steps up from a mile for the G1 Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly on Sunday. The legendary French trainer believes the son of Dubawi will relish the extra two and a half furlongs of the colts’ Classic following his fine effort in the G1 Poule d’Essai des Poulains at Longchamp which saw him chase home the winner, his stable-mate Make Believe (GB) (Makfi {GB}).”I think he’s going to have a very good chance. He proved himself in the Poulains. He was drawn wide and finished well,” said Fabre of the colt, who is owned by Khalid Abdullah. “He is a horse that should enjoy the extra distance and all is well with him. New Bay also enjoys the good ground which it will be on Sunday.”
A number of unexposed horses will line up in the French Derby on Sunday and among them is Sumbal (Ire) (Danehill Dancer {Ire}). The colt, owned by Qatar Racing and who only made is debut in March has been competing in small fields, but according to trainer Francis Graffard he has yet to do anything wrong.”He’s in good form, but the problem with this horse is that he doesn’t have any form because he has only beaten small fields in each race. I think he will run well, but I don’t know how good he is. We will find out on Sunday,” said Graffard. Trainer Jean-Claude Rouget is in a similar situation to Graffard in that he finds it difficult to quantify the form of his charge War Dispatch (War Front) who is unbeaten in his last five outings. “He has been doing very well, no problem at all,” said Rouget. “We have no form lines with the favorites but I think he can be competitive and run a good race. He always does the minimum and is never impressive. He has been winning every time, but in lesser company. This is the target and I think he is arriving in good shape for it,” added the trainer.
