Brown Panther Works For Irish Leger
Michael Owen and Andrew Black’s Brown Panther (GB) (Shirocco {Ger}), winner of last year’s G1 Irish St Leger and this year’s G2 Dubai Gold Cup, galloped at Newmarket Racecourse Friday in his latest stage of a comeback from injury. The 7-year-old was an eye-catching winner at Meydan in March, but has not been seen since finishing second behind subsequent Royal Ascot winner Snow Sky (GB) (Nayef) in the G2 Yorkshire Cup May 15.
Brown Panther worked just over a mile under regular race rider Richard Kingscote in company with his stablemate and full-brother Cocker (GB), and the jockey said, “It was nothing too strenuous. He just traveled along nicely behind his lead horse and picked up past the furlong pole when I asked him. I’m happy with him.”
“The boss [trainer Tom Dascombe] was keen to get him away from home,” Kingscote added. “I asked the boss if I could give him a little squeeze as he’s not been off the bridle for while. He’s not had a hard piece, but enough to blow away the cobwebs. I think the boss wants to go for the Irish Leger, so fingers crossed.”
