Tatts Ireland Wraps Up With Gains
The momentum that built up at Part I of Tattersalls Ireland’s September Yearling Sale earlier this week carried over into the single-session Part II Thursday, with figures well up on those posted 12 months ago. A total of 182 yearlings changed hands for €1,636,200, compared to 171 that found new homes last year for €1,265,200. The buyback rate was down more than six points to 14.2%, while the average climbed 22% to €8,990, and the median was up 40% to €7,000.
“The robust trade witnessed today absolutely consolidates the very positive results achieved on the reintroduction of Part II in 2014, and it was hugely satisfying to see such strong gains made across all key indicators and particularly the excellent clearance rate at 86%, with several new purchasers joining the diverse list of those who had already been so active during the emphatic renewal of the September Yearling Sale Part I,” said Tattersalls Ireland Managing Director Roger Casey. “The results today bring to an end a truly spectacular week for the September Sales and provide us with the ideal platform to develop these sales even further in 2016.”
The top price of the day was registered by the very last horse through the ring, lot 706, a daughter of Cockney Rebel (Ire) who was picked up by Rebel Racing for €60,000 from Castledillon Stud as agent. The bay is a half-sister to dual Grade II winner and Grade I-placed Slim Shadey (GB) (Val Royal {Fr}) and a full to the Group 2-placed Groovejet (GB). Her dam is a half-sister to G1 Yasuda Kinen winner Bullish Luck (Royal Academy).
Aidan O’Ryan of Rebel Racing, who had to see off Ballyhane’s Joe Foley to secure the filly, said, “She is a nice filly with a good page and it is really encouraging that her full-sister, Groovejet, is such a good horse.”
Two lots shared the second-highest price of €42,000: a colt by Thewayyouare purchased by Ger Lyons and a filly by Requinto (Ire) bought by Tally-Ho Stud.
