As the least-fancied of the Ballydoyle trio at 14-1, Delano Roosevelt would have been forgiven for showing a trace of his raw material and finish in the ruck as several of the nicer Ballydoyle juveniles have done so far this term. After a slow break, the imposing bay languished in rear under Wayne Lordan and for much of the contest that eventuality seemed likely but as he was cajoled into action in early straight he began to show his impressive stride. This is the maiden used by Aidan O’Brien to launch Camelot (GB) in 2011 and in which Douglas Macarthur (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) also earned TDN Rising Star status 12 months ago as he became the stable’s sixth winner since 2009. Delano Roosevelt, whose stately stage name hints at his connections’s regard, made up the ground on his stablemate and 4-6 favourite Coat of Arms (Ire) (Galileo {Ire}) without his rider needing to ask a serious question and as he passed him in the final yards he went on to a head success which fails to tell the story. “He was just ready to start and is a big horse and a big strider,” Aidan O’Brien commented. “Sometimes on their first start they are very green, so you’d have to be delighted with that and you’d imagine he’d have no problem with a mile and a quarter next year.” The winner is a son of the 2008 G2 Debutante S. and G1 Moyglare Stud S.-winning highweight Again, who went on to embellish her record with success in the following year’s G1 Irish 1000 Guineas. She is a half-sister to the G3 Give Thanks S. third Arkadina (Ire) (Danehill), who herself is the dam of this month’s GIII Robert G. Dick Memorial S. scorer Guilty Twelve (Giant’s Causeway) and the listed winner Iltemas, also by Galileo. Another of her half-siblings, the listed-placed Aris (Ire) (Danroad {Aus}), produced last year’s G2 Challenge S. scorer Aclaim (Ire) (Acclamation {GB}) while the third dam Floripedes needs no introduction. The legacy of the G3 Prix de Lutece winner and G1 Prix Royal-Oak runner-up is her gift of the brilliant Montjeu (Ire), whose dual Derby and Arc victories will be 19 years old by the time Delano Roosevelt and co line up for the 2018 Classics. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $12,650.
