Fadillah, who topped the list at €1.2-million at Arqana’s 2014 August Yearling sale, followed hot on the heels of Craven’s Legend (Ire) (Invincible Spirit {Ire}), the €1.1-million second-highest priced lot at that sale who graduated at Compiegne two days before, and justified her entry in the June 3 G1 Epsom Oaks with a taking performance in this unveiling. The bay was a shade free racing under a tight grip in sixth early before settling into a smooth rhythm. Nudged along approaching the final quarter mile, the 6-4 favourite stayed on strongly for Pat Cosgrave’s whipless cajoling and swooped late to gain an ultimately comfortable 3/4-of-a-length verdict over Malhama (GB) (New Approach {Ire}). Fadillah is a full-sister to ‘TDN Rising Star’ and G1 Preis der Diana-German Oaks runner-up Soberania (Ger), G1SP-Ger & Ity, $233,445, and a half-sister to G1 Grosser Preis von Bayern victor Seismos (Ire) (Dalakhani {Ire}), G1SW-Ger, GSW-Eng, SW-Fr & GISP-Can, $664,558; and Samba Brazil (Ger) (Teofilo {Ire}), Hwt. Older Mare-Ger at 7-9.5f, GSW-Ger & MGSP-Ity, $140,392. Her winning dam Sasuela (Ger) (Dashing Blade {GB}) is out of dual Broodmare of the Year Sacarina (GB) (Old Vic {GB}), and is thus a half-sister to MG1SW G1 Deutsches Derby winners Schiaparelli (Ger) Monsun {Ger}) and Samum (Ger) Monsun {Ger}), and G1 Preis der Diana-German Oaks victress Salve Regina (Ger) Monsun {Ger}). She has more recently produced a yearling filly by Frankel (GB) and a filly foal by Galileo (Ire). “Pat Cosgrave has ridden her a bit and thought she had enough speed for a mile, which is why we came here and he said she was much greener then he thought,†trainer William Haggas said. “She’s quite a fussy, fragile filly but she’s talented and if we can channel that I’m sure she has more to offer. I will certainly step her up to a mile and a quarter next time and that was perfect, as he never had to touch her [with the whip]. She was hardly in training last year, so I know very little about her but she has shown lots of class in the couple of bits of work she has done. She’s got a chance to be good and will be entered in everything she can be, but whether the Oaks is the right race I don’t know. Ireland might be more suitable, as she has another six weeks. She’ll need to take in a trial next time if that’s going to happen and her pedigree says a mile and a half.†Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, £4,205.
