Jess’s Dream, the first foal produced by 2009 Horse of the Year and $3.5-million earner Rachel Alexandra by Stonestreet’s Hall of Famer and two-time Horse of the Year Curlin, ran to his monumental pedigree with a dramatic last-to-first ‘TDN Rising Star’ performance Monday afternoon. Carrying the same silks as his sire and dam once did at odds of 3-1, the dark bay was away from the gate a step slowly and dropped back to trail the field by nearly 20 lengths as favored All Rise (Mineshaft) carved out fractions of :23.03 and :47.85. The colt gained a head of steam on the far turn, angled to the center of the strip turning for home and rallied past all of his rivals to post a half-length score over Securitiz (Tiznow). “It wasn’t easy to get him to the races,†said winning trainer Kiaran McLaughlin. “We’ve had him for a year but it’s taken a year to get him here. It was like a Grade I. It was pretty special because of who it is and listening to the fans clap. It’s great to win here at Saratoga with this horse because they appreciate him.†When asked about future plans for Jess’s Dream, the trainer added that the next step for the colt is likely an allowance race at Belmont. Rachel Alexandra’s first foal to race, the 2-year-old filly Rachel’s Valentina (Bernardini), graduated in her debut here Aug. 2, also earning ‘TDN Rising Star’ status. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $49,800.
