Teardrop might have left some of her backers tearing up their tickets when she missed the break as an even-money favorite, but the debutante came through in the end despite being her own worst enemy. Spotting her foes two or three lengths, the lanky grey rushed up into contention before practically blowing the turn with her head cocked to the inside. Putting it all together in the lane, Teardrop leveled off nicely and showed off her giant stride to romp home a no-doubt-about-it 3 3/4-length winner. Wesley Ward firster She’s Coal Fired (Brother Derek) was second. According to Trakus data, Teardrop covered 40 feet more than the runner-up, which equates to approximately 4 3/4 additonal lengths. The winner is a 3/4-sister to Pyro (Pulpit), GISW, $1,673,673; and Longview Drive (Pulpit), SW & MGSP, $224,012; and a full to War Echo, GSW, $284,387. Her dam, a five-length debut winner in her lone start for Verne Winchell and Steve Asmussen in 2000, is a full-sister to MGSW Wild Wonder. Teardrop hails from an extremely deep female family that includes Grade I winners Olympio (Naskra), Tapizar (Tapit), Paddy O’Prado (El Prado {Ire}) and Cuvee (Carson City) as well as GSWs Call Now (Wild Again), Fun House (Prized), Early Flyer (Gilded Time), Will He Shine (Silver Deputy) and Bien Nicole (Bien Bien). Teardrop has a yearling half-brother by Dynaformer. Lifetime Record: 1-1-0-0, $27,000.
